Hey, friends.
I'm putting my money where my mouth is. I'm moving my blog.

You can find it here: rowan-oak.net

If you would like to keep up with me via your friends list, you can add this feed: [info]rowanoakdotnet

I'll still be reading my friends page and commenting on your entries - I like you all and want to keep up with you, and as it stands, my friends page is the best place to do that. I'm also going to keep an eye on how things go with LJ. If they improve, which I honestly hope to see, I'll be back. I can't give up on LJ yet. As such, I'll be leaving my archives here, even though I do have them backed up on my hard drive. I may eventually develop enough mental space to start deleting them from LJ and just have them for my own personal purposes.

Thanks for reading - I like you all. :)

Yes, that's right. I'm joining in on this LJ strike thing. I know many of you think it's silly, pointless, and won't achieve anything. You're probably right, but I am upset about the direction LJ is going. Especially after seeing this interview: http://darkrosetiger.livejournal.com/373663.html Please, read it and see just how little concern for their users the new management of LJ has. There is another translation here: http://furiosity.livejournal.com/472399.html

I won't be posting in my LJ until after the strike is over. I will, however, be updating this post before the strike; I will be setting up a blog on my domain. I don't know yet if I will return to LJ to blog after the strike or not. I have all my entries archived on my computer, and I am very close to deleting them from LJ. I haven't decided. I will, however, be reading my friends page and commenting on all your posts regardless of what I decide to do. I just cannot stand to keep blogging here if things continue in this downward spiral.

Thanks for reading. :) More to be posted here soon.

If I wasn't scared about the future of LJ before, I am now.

And I just renewed my account in January.

Jesse makes tea good:
"As a note. Don't try to microwave tea in a Hard Lemonade bottle. It overflows and then is hard to mix the sugar. ... I used a carrot to cork it to shake up the sugar. I had to make a makeshift funnel for the sugar too."

"And, also, tea-flavored carrots are kinda cool."

Happy St. Patrick's Day! :)

I wish I could remember the stuff we learned about the "real" St. Patrick last year in my Medieval Europe class - it was extremely interesting, and it's rather cool to see how stories (and names) evolve and change. He was a rather awesome dude.

That said, this is my favorite minor holiday. I have no idea why... I love Irish music and wearing green and the cheerfulness of it, I guess. :D

Also, in a moment of girliness: My dress came! So when I get home I can go try it on. Yay!

So, LJ sort of apologized. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm glad they admitted they made a change, but now I'm just irked. I don't like being all for joining in the drama... but LJ is something I care about a lot. Oh, well.

Anyway. Random question, just to see what my friends list thinks.

Edit: This option: I would like to see features almost entirely removed and a drastic cutback in features. Should be "drastic cutback in advertising." I can't make my brain work when I am sick. :(

Being sick stinks. I slept for 14 hours last night, and now I'm going back to bed again. Yay.

What. The. Crap. LJ.

So. I was trying to be positive about LJ being taken over by SUP, but it was mostly mental games with myself, since I figured it wouldn't be, after all the lovely experience Russian users had with SUP previous to the buy out.

Buuut, SUP has just proven their loserness.

Free LJs can no longer be created. If you have a basic account, it can stay that way, but all new accounts must either be plus (yay, ads!) or paid.

This is not cool. I do not approve in any way, shape, or form. Sigh. I see a giant uprising from the RP communities very soon...

Soo, I've been listening to really random music today, and I decided to order my iTunes library by reverse "last played," so I get stuff I haven't listened to in ages. Some of this stuff hasn't been listened to in over two years - not long after I got my laptop. CRAZY.

*avoids homework*

Neil Gaiman has almost lost my respect. He has the rest of this book to get it back. ANYWAY. Um. I'm reading Marvel:1602 for my graphic novel class oral report. And the artwork is absolutely GORGEOUS. I am just awed by it. And so far I've been able to pick up on who characters are, even though I have never read a real Marvel comic before. SO. It's pretty good so far.

BUT. Three pages in the TEMPLARS are mentioned, and this makes me want to punch something. And now we have the Templars being described to not-yet-Spiderman and I REALLY want to punch someone. THERE WAS NO SECRET FREAKING TREASURE. THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY. GO AWAY.
Yeah. I've written two large research papers on the Templars and the whole conspiracy thing makes me angry.

Okay. I am done now. Carry on. :D

I've discovered what's been making me so down lately.

Being ignored. I've been ignored a lot in the past year or so, but this semester has been extremely bad. Hm. Well, at least I have it figured out.

2/15/08 08:09 pm

OH GOODNESS.

My roommates are watching a movie - Waitress - and I freaked out 'cause I saw Mal (Nathan Fillion) and he's totally a doctor in it. AMUSING. He always makes hilarious faces.

YAY CLASS WAS CANCELLED.

Sad because it's my awesome Graphic Novel class, but yay because Thursday is my day of doom and now I can take a nap! Yay!

And even more YAY - I get to GO HOME TOMORROW MORNING. Yaaaaay. In less than 24 hours I will have time with Jesse and and and YAY.

2/2/08 02:06 pm

*shakes fist at body* I had such good intentions! I went to bed about quarter after ten last night (there were more reasons for this than just wanting sleep, but I'm sick of emo-ing, so we'll skip over that) and was going to sleep until 9 this morning! Yeah! That's almost 11 hours of sleep, yeah!

Only I didn't fall asleep until sometime around 12. And after that, I kept waking up, usually about every two hours (I remember distinctly waking up at 2 and 4, anyway, and I think I woke up at 6, too). That wouldn't have been too bad, except when I woke up at 2 and 4, it took me like half an hour to fall asleep again. Seriously, body. You're supposed to WANT to sleep. And I ended up getting out of bed a little after 8. Yay.

I hate Thursdays.

I can't even use the cool Arthur Dent quote about Thursdays. I've got to have the hang of it. It's just a bit too crazy not to.

I looove the midwest. Yesterday it was about 40 degrees out, and now, today, it's 0 degrees out, with a windchill of -34. Oh, yay. Brr. I can handle the -30 to -40 windchills, when there's some adjustment time. BRR.

(Sorry non-American friends, those are all farenheit temperatures and I'm too lazy to go convert them.)

A good way to compare this is to take a 90 degree day (which is about 33-35ish celsius, if I remember correctly...?) down to a little below freezing. That's the same difference, only we went from one winter/early spring temperature to ... extreme winter temperature. Yay.

Yesterday Sarah pointed out that it was exactly five months until Jesse and I get married. Wow.

Summary of life: am feeling overwhelmed by said thing, and don't know how to cope. Yay.

I also managed to get sticky-sugar stuff on my headphones and this makes me sad. Music is a good way to relax for a while.

1/19/08 01:05 pm

Oh, man. I gotta go watch the last season and some of Ranma. I'll be sad to finish the show, but when I am RICH I shall read the manga.

... I wonder if I can interlibrary loan the manga... *goes to check this out* >:D

All that said, I'm such a Traditional Christian. Best song of worship ever (in my opinion, anyway):
Come Thou Fount )

I'm so sick of the contemporary "worship songs" we sing in chapel and at the churches here. It's... the same words over and over and over. Bleh. And a lot of it, as Jessica and Sarah have said, could basically be sung to your boyfriend. And, uh... while there is the metaphor of Jesus and the Church as His bride... well, our love for Christ is quite different (and much more profound, I believe) than romantic love. But that's what it's been turned into. So, yay hymns that manage to catch that feeling of depth. One of the only "contemporary" songs that I know that manages to go back to the feel of real hymns is In Christ Alone, and that's a fantastic song. Contemporary and all, but very much a hymn. Lovely.

All that said, I also don't want to give party to the "worship wars" that are one of the many things tearing our people apart. I've always known, and seen it especially here at college, that different people worship differently. For some people, these songs really are worshipful. Some, I think, just get wrapped up in the spiritual high of it all, but I know there are people to whom those words really speak. I'm just not one of them.

Bleaargh. Today is not my best day ever. I didn't sleep well last night - I went to bed about 1:15, read until about 1:45, got out of bed again at 2:30 because I couldn't sleep, went back to bed, and finally fell asleep around 3:30. Yay! I then got up at about 9:15 to do homework and whatnot. Yay. Now I'm going to go eat lunch and spend the rest of my day IN CLASS. Blegh.

But! Jesse is coming to visit me tomorrow and that's exciting! :D

Odd: Firefox spellcheck accepts Pratchett as all fine and good (yay, Pratchett!) but underlines with angry redness "Narnia." :(

Though, it also underlines "Discworld," so I guess it's just a bias against places and not authors. ;)
